Service Dog Gives Vet With PTSD His Life Back


When U.S. Army veteran Staff Sergeant Randall Dexter came home after two tours in Iraq — he suffered a severe brain injury when his unit was struck with an explosive device in 2012 — he was “contemplating suicide and was a hot mess,” he told Today. The married father of three young children was living in a warrior transition unit in San Diego, where he was dealing with a post-traumatic stress disorder diagnosis.


But a year into his recovery, Dexter heard about Paws’itive Teams (a non-profit dog therapy service that helps vets, people with special needs and the disabled) through his recovery program’s therapy unit.
